And with that privilege came a responsibility.” “We don't have any sort of equality for any marginalized group until we have financial equality.” “I work to see personal finance education as a form of protest" “When you have financial stability, you have options, you have choices. “You can't talk about money and not talk about systemic oppression and talk about these narratives that are perpetuated in order to keep you underpaid and overworked” [13:20 ] Shame and Money “We have so much shame and judgment around money because no one taught us how to money. And we are then shamed for our choices. Women specifically, we are told, ‘stop spending your money on frivolous things’.” “Shame, loves silence and loves the quiet corner of the room, and that's what the talking about money is: this taboo narrative telling you “don't talk about money, that's shameful or you’re going to get judged” “Talking about money is a form of protest. That's why having financial resources and understanding the financial system are forms of protest against that society and that system that is actively keeping you and gatekeeping that information from you.” [22:00] Re-empower yourself “The vast majority of your money habits are cemented by age seven” “What is the first time you remember consciously having thoughts about money?” “Moving from defense to offense was replacing that belief with making money is a natural byproduct of doing things I love” Knowing it's okay to want money. It's okay to want choices. Every single person wants those choices. It's not bad. [30:00] Money = Choices “The vast majority of people don't just want money in order to see a literal stack of paper in their bank account. They want what that stack of paper gives them in terms of options. Wanting money, pursuing money is not a bad thing. “Money gives you choices.
