Wild at Heart
Wild at Heart

This podcast is hosted by John Eldredge, an author, counselor, and president of Wild at Heart, a ministry that helps people find God's love and Kingdom. With his experience as a counselor and teacher, John shares insights on how to discover the heart of God, recover one's heart in God's love, and learn to live in God's Kingdom. The podcast covers topics related to faith, personal growth, and discovering one's purpose in life, providing guidance and encouragement to listeners who are seeking to deepen their relationship with God.

The true story of every person is not the story we see, the external story, but the journey of their heart. Tragically, we try to ignore or silence our hearts—whether through busyness, work, hobbies, more church duties, or a colorful fantasy life. It never works, because we were made for more, and we know it. Which makes this the perfect moment to relaunch John Eldredge and Brent Curtis' book, The Sacred Romance. In the first of this three-part series, discover the origin story of this breathtaking message and hear John read the first chapter from the updated edition of this transformative book. The Sacred Romance book, audio, and workbook are available at the links below and wherever books are sold. The Sacred Romance BookAnd the Workbook_______________________________________________There is more.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? Inspired by John's bestselling book of the same name, Wild at Heart: The Series is a film series featuring the stories of four broken men becoming really good men. To kick it off, John and Allen bring Daniel, the Director of the series, into the studio to talk about the amazing way God brought this dream to life. In a world of non-stop information, it's hard to remember what we heard just 24 hours ago. Which is why, in this Q3 Review, John and Allen pause to recall the big ideas from our past three months of podcasts. We long for more healing but often don't know how to pursue it in a focused, intentional manner. In this week's podcast, John is joined by Sam Eldredge, Stacia Littlefield, and Stacey Burton to discuss wholeheartedness and well-being. As Sam says, "Our wounds come through relationships, so our healing will also come through relationships." He created Noble Workshops as a safe space where those who feel stuck or need care for a wound in their story can go deeper in their healing through a unique process that combines experiential therapy with a holistic view of each person. In the series conclusion, John, Blaine, and Allen offer stories and insights on how God strengthens his people in times of crisis. One key trend is the growth in deep discipleship. Rather than try to fit a little bit of God into our busy schedules, we must take our life with Jesus seriously by seeking his Kingdom first—and then seeing what else there is room for. That's the only way to remain strong, love well, and stay in union with God as this world grows more chaotic.Show Notes:1) Follow Blaine's Substack writings at https://blaineeldredge.substack.com/2) Find more about the Rule of Life Workbook here.3) The Prayer of Descent document is available here._______________________________________________There is more.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? In Part 3 of our series, John, Blaine, and Allen bring two streams together: 1) how followers of Jesus handle crisis, and 2) observable, accelerating trends of God. To remain strong and rooted in the face of growing chaos, we must retrain our souls to see, above all else, how God's activity saturates the various parts of our lives and world events—and how this understanding of reenchantment reveals the return of a meaningful universe.Show Notes: 1) Follow Blaine's writings on Substack at https://blaineeldredge.substack.com/ 2) The ocean photograph, featured in a Patagonia article, is by David Doubilet 3) Songs for a worship playlist include:- City of God by Steffany Gretzinger, kalley - The Narrow Way by Steffany Gretzinger - Holy by Steffany Gretzinger- His Name is Jesus (Live) by Jeremy Riddle- Vision of Your Love - by Mission House, Jess Ray, Taylor Leonhardt- Poor In Spirit (Live) by Eliza King, Brett ShawClick Here for Spotify Playlist4) Read the unedited chapter of John's upcoming book (Experience Jesus. This moment in time isn't unprecedented, but it is unique. In Part 2 of this series, John, Blaine, and Allen look at how the followers of Jesus responded to crises over the ages. It's a needed reminder because the pace of life and technology have left us weakened and weary rather than ready for whatever's coming next. Rather than grow more disenchanted, discover how Christianity provides a way to view the reenchantment of the world. With Jesus, we can experience calm, unshakable hope in the face of growing chaos—but only by wholeheartedly focusing on God and his purposes over control and self-preservation.Show Notes: 1) Follow Blaine's writings on Substack at https://blaineeldredge.substack.com/2) Listen to the song Hymn of the Holy Spirit by Pat Barrett here. Spotify or YouTube3) Read an advance (unedited) chapter of John's upcoming book (Experience Jesus. In the series conclusion, John, Alex, and Allen reveal how God alone is our refuge. We're meant to live within the safety of God, drawing our nourishment from our union with him. Being a Christian mystic was never meant to be something exceptional or rare. In Part 4 of the series, John, Alex, and Allen swap stories about what it looks like to live as ordinary, everyday mystics and how we're all meant to know God and the beauty of his kingdom in deep, profound ways. In this light, the Apostle John, St. Paul, and David were all mystics; certainly Adam and Eve were as well. Once we understand Christian mysticism as the daily experience of God as revealed in Jesus Christ, we can experience the normal life of an ordinary mystic. The book John referenced is A Wind in the House of Islam by David Garrison. The Prayer of Descent Podcast that John referenced can be found here.Email your questions to Questions@WildatHeart.org_______________________________________________There is more.Support the mission or find more on our website: WildAtHeart.org  or on our app.Apple: Wild At Heart AppAndroid: Wild At Heart AppEpisode Number 769Watch on YouTubeMore pauses available in the One Minute Pause app for Apple iOS and Android.Apple: One Minute Pause AppAndroid: One Minute Pause App
In Part 3 of the series, John, Alex, and Allen reveal how Jesus wants to rescue us from the barriers to fully experiencing God and his kingdom. Returning to the life we were created for isn't a complicated process. But it does require us to exchange our cynicism, skepticism, and pragmatism for the simple trust of a child.__________________________________________________There is More!Support the mission or find more on our website:WildAtHeart.org or on our app.Apple: Wild At Heart AppAndroid: Wild At Heart AppEpisode Number 768Watch on YouTubeMore pauses available in the One Minute Pause app for Apple iOS and Android.Apple: One Minute Pause AppAndroid: One Minute Pause App
As the series continues, John, Alex, and Allen look at how our culture clings to the belief that practical information is the way to salvation. Yet as this information on the Internet is continually contradicted and undermined, we grow more fragile, vulnerable, and cynical. It has made weary skeptics of us all. Even in the area of faith, we try to make God and his kingdom 'practical' by stripping it of all wonder, mystery, and power. Thankfully, there is a way out of the madness._______________________________________________Support the mission or find more on our website: WildAtHeart.org  or on our app.Apple: Wild At Heart AppAndroid: Wild At Heart AppEpisode Number 767Watch on YouTubeMore pauses available in the One Minute Pause app for Apple iOS and Android.Apple: One Minute Pause AppAndroid: One Minute Pause App
John, Alex, and Allen begin this new series with a disruptive observation: We are all disciples of the Internet and it has shaped us profoundly. For one thing, the Internet has discipled our souls to anticipate, even demand, immediate answers. So when we ask God a question and are not answered in the way the Internet does, we feel he isn't listening. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The effects go far, far deeper._______________________________________________Support the mission or find more on our website: WildAtHeart.org  or on our app.Apple: Wild At Heart AppAndroid: Wild At Heart AppEpisode Number 766Watch on YouTubeMore pauses available in the One Minute Pause app for Apple iOS and Android.Apple: One Minute Pause AppAndroid: One Minute Pause App
John and Allen conclude the First Quarter recap by focusing on what we believe will be our two most important podcasts this year. Together, they provide orientation to this moment in time. What does it mean to pursue the "All-In" Life—and why is that the only safe place in the world? John expands on a Narnia phrase to reveal that there's actually a second wardrobe door we must go through to experience the full Kingdom life. From there, John passionately shares why union with God must be at the epicenter of everything we are and do. The highlight segments are from our February 26, 2024, podcast (The "All-In" Life) and the March 4, 2024, episode (Don't Miss the Main Thing).Click here for an image of the whiteboard John references. We're twelve podcasts into the year. How many of those conversations are still top of mind? Probably not many—and that's not your fault. This world constantly overloads us with never-ending information and content that causes us to forget what matters most. This two-part series counters that, with John and Allen offering a highlight reel of the main moments from the first quarter. Part 1 focuses on tools for spiritual warfare and ways to defy the artificial. You can watch The AI Dilemma mentioned in the show here. We all need shelter, love, and safety, yet many go through life never having these universal longings met. In this week's podcast, John shares his most important message of the year. He reveals how too many believers have missed the essence of Christianity. We were created for deep intimacy with God. That alone is the epicenter of the Christian life—not spiritual disciplines, social justice, ancient theology, or community, as good as those things may be. The central invitation is to know God rather than simply know a lot about him or do a lot for him. The recovery of this daily relational intimacy was never meant to be optional. It is the essence of everything.Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/DTqYcd13mss
There is no way to partially follow Jesus. In this week's podcast, John and Allen reveal the danger of divided affections, or what they call the "Jesus And" life. This approach never works— because we were created for Jesus alone to be at the center of every part of our lives. Discover why many settle for less than God intended—and how we can experience more by going through the "second wardrobe door". The "All-In" life isn't just the safest place in the world, it's actually the only safe place in the world.Click here for an image of the white board John references. The two recommended podcasts in this episode are Church of the City Podcast by Jon Tyson and Practicing the Way Podcast by John Mark Comer.Watch on YouTube!

In this second half of this podcast series, John and Allen dive even deeper into the clash between the real and the artificial, explaining how it is intensifying and why no one can remain neutral in this world of competing realities. They offer practical ways to navigate the chaos and choices before us by sharing the Five Tenets of the Real and Five Lies of the Artificial from Allen's new book, Risk the Real: How to Defy the Rise of the Artificial. In The Matrix, Morpheus states, "There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." That's even more true here. Our goal isn't just greater awareness—but to actively step into the story God has created us for at this moment in time. Only then can we risk well for what matters most as we defy the artificial and pursue the real.Watch on YouTubeAllen's new book, Risk the Real, is available now on Amazon. https://a.co/d/inwdAP1
Every aspect of our lives is being invaded by the artificial. Yet we miss what’s at stake if we assume it's inevitable, neutral, or simply limited to AI. John and Allen reveal how the artificial actually has roots that go all the way back to Eden, when the serpent seduced Adam and Eve with a counterfeit narrative. These ancient roots entangle us in more ways than we realize. The more we embrace the artificial, the more we find ourselves in a "Partificial Daze"—a haze of anxiety, exhaustion, and addiction that numbs us to what matters most. Allen's new book, Risk the Real: How to Defy the Rise of the Artificial, offers a reality reorientation. Because there is only one antidote to the artificial—a wholehearted pursuit of the real where we embrace God as the Creator of reality and align with his intentions for us.Watch on YouTubeYou can watch The AI Dilemma mentioned in the show here:https://youtu.be/xoVJKj8lcNQ?si=v8_6c1hUzNiW0hCA&t=1Allen's new book, Risk the Real, is available now on Amazon. https://a.co/d/inwdAP1
